Metairie now has a new dining destination near the foot of Veterans Memorial Boulevard that is making its unique mark on the culinary scene. Legacy Kitchen recently opened and has quickly risen in popularity. Mixing a fresh and polished take on comfort food with an impressive list of craft cocktails and wines, this restaurant is a gem in a suburban sea of fast food chains.
The décor is open and airy with a complete view of the kitchen and spacious bar area to watch the mixologists at work. The re-purposed wood barrel chandeliers combined with a pleasing color scheme add to the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. Poppy tunes enhance the fun and festive environment and the service is well above standard. Their staff is engaging, polite, and very knowledgeable about the menu.
The food takes an innovative approach to many comfort food standards like the Open-faced Meatloaf and the BBQ Shrimp N’ Popcorn Rice. Their Fried Chicken and Waffles are simply divine and their BBQ Ribs are tender and delicious. Another noteworthy entrée is the Duck Confit Chili which explodes with hearty flavors. The extensive sandwich selection makes it an ideal spot for lunch. I recommend the NYC Nola or the Bacon, BBQ and Cheddar Burger. Legacy also has many vegetarian options; especially enjoyable is the Kale Caesar Salad and the Veggie Burger Melt. There homemade “angry pickles” finish off any of the sandwiches well.
There array of inspired side dishes complement any of the choices, although their kettle chips were not my favorite.
