On Friday, January 21, Octavia Gallery on Julia Street in the Warehouse District was the scene of a celebration to honor the 7 Deadly Sins.
The Friday Night Before Mardi Gras hosted their VIP host party at this gorgeous space to give patrons a taste of the exciting event to come. The Friday Night Before Mardi Gras was founded in 1999, and has been throwing one of the craziest, most unique costume parties of the New Orleans Mardi Gras Carnival Season ever since. Food For Friends has a brand new state-of-the-art kitchen in which makes meals for people living with HIV and AIDS. The cuisine was created by Executive Chef and Kitchen Manager Houcine Harrabi. There were lots of libations as guests danced to the DJ styling of Phil Parrino from Countdown Sound.
Two artistic wigs keeping with the deadly sin theme were created by Fifi Mahoney’s and auctioned off to lucky bidders. There were drag performances by three-time Gay Appreciation Award Winner Elizabeth Bouvier, King Cake Queen Barbara Ella and Princesse Stephaney who was just named Queen of the Camel Toe Steppers this year. I was honored to be asked to emcee the evening’s festivities, and all monies raised go to the FNBMG’s big night – Extravaganza XV: Seven Deadly Sins. In addition to Food For Friends, other charities that have benefitted from past events were NO/AIDS Task Force, Belle Reve, Project Lazarus, New Orleans Pride, Forum for Equality, PFLAG and the New Orleans LGBT Community Center just to name a few.
