King Me!: A Review of “The Queens of King”

If you are looking for an evening of incredible music then go no further than the newest cabaret “The Queens of King” staring Big Easy Award Winners Lisa Picone and Dorian Rush at the Always Lounge and Theatre.

The show is a tribute to the stupendous songwriter and singer Carole King.  Picone and Rush take the audience through a sentimental journey through King’s life, telling her story and performing numbers that mark milestones for both her and them.

What makes this night so special is how these performers personalize King’s life to theirs.  From King’s soundtrack for a children’s movie to her mega blockbuster album Tapestry, these ladies bring her songs to vibrant life.

With Natalie True on piano, the evening just flies by with one hit after another.  King has written so many songs for other people that guests will be surprised to hear some of the songs performed.  These tunes are so much an important part of many peoples’ lives, that you cannot help singing along.

The “Queens of King” is a magical stroll down memory lane with two very accomplished performers.

So make it a point to check out this show before “It’s Too Late, Baby, Yea, and It’s Too Late.” (Come on, I had to go there, I love her songs.)

Performances are January 23 through the 25th starting at 8 p.m. at the Allways Lounge and Theatre located at 2240 St. Claude Avenue.  The evening I went it was sold out, so I recommend buying tickets in advance at www.brownpaperbagtickets.com or calling 504-758-5590.
