Jazz En Route To France Talk: New Orleans Jazz Museum; 400 Esplanade Avenue; 2 – 3:30 p.m .
Claus Walkstein presents: Jazz en route to France. This event is free and open to the public. Claus Walkstein is Associate Professor in Social Psychology and Epistemology at the University of Nantes. As a researcher and a musician, he is particularly interested in the psychosociological and representational aspects of the emergence of jazz culture, which he scrutinizes from a sociocultural and economic point of view as a way to reach prosperity and social recognition.
Claus Walkstein has given talks on traditional New Orleans jazz as a cultural “product”, i.e., as a commercial good that involves various social, commercial, and economical issues and strategies. He is currently working on the representations of jazz in a transcultural dynamic, focusing on an analysis of newspaper articles from American and French press.

Bring an offering (object, picture, anything) to place upon our mobile altar (All offerings are kept safe in reverence for use in future remembrances). Candles for the altar are available (in addition to any personal offering but a donation is appreciated. (All funds collected go to local New Orleans Charities).

Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s Boudin, Bourbon & Beer is returning to Champions Square. Boudin, Bourbon & Beer has quickly grown to become one of the region’s top food and music festivals. Emeril Lagasse and event co-chairs Donald Link, Stephen Stryjewski and John Currence along with 60 of the country’s best chefs, will prepare their version of the Louisiana delicacy boudin and other artisanal sausages. Funds raised go to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, which supports children’s educational programs, life skills development initiatives, culinary training, and cultural enrichment in New Orleans and the Gulf south. The Odyssey Ball celebrates and enhances the New Orleans Museum of Art in an evening of unparalleled elegance. Odyssey 2017 will commemorate the city’s Tri-centennial and highlight NOMA’s and Odyssey’s integral place in New Orleans’ cultural life and history. Odyssey — now in its 51st year — has created its own New Orleans tradition. Odyssey: A Celebration 300 Years in the Making presented by IBERIABANK will continue this legacy in NOMA’s enduring marble halls.

Pride Prom is an all ages event, and will take place in the Tulane LBC’s Qatar Ballroom and feature food, music, and fun! Proceeds of Pride Prom support BreakOUT! New Orleans, a local charity aimed at decriminalizing LGBTQIA+ youth in New Orleans through outreach and programming.
