Happy Labor Day, I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. Even though Southern Decadence has come to a close, there is still plenty of festively gay things to do.

The St. Roch Market (2381 St. Claude Avenue) has quickly become one of the hottest new spots in the Marigny/Bywater area. On Labor Day, join us for an outdoor party in honor of Homer A. Plessy Community School. There will be Arts and Crafts, Sno-balls by Imperial Snowball, Music by Big Easy Brawlers, food that includes Pulled pork from Shank Charcuterie; Vegetarian Mac N Cheese from Dirty Dishes; Grilled Corn on the Cob by The PDR NOLA and Cornbread by King Creole, plus Plessy Punch from the Mayhaw and Sweet and Unsweet Tea from Coast Roast Coffee. The event takes place from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. on the back patio area of St. Roch Market.

Come out for the best Drag Dinner show in the city a the Country Club located at 634 Louisa Street. The show stars Nicole Lynn Foxx with Persana Shoulders emceeing. Enjoy a night of history, wine and food at the Soiree de la Societe Internationale Fundraiser at the Audubon Tea Room (6500 Magazine Street). The National Association for Catering and Events (NACE) is partnering with Save Our Cemeteries for this year’s annual fundraising event with the patron party starting at 6:30 p.m. and general admission at 7:30 p.m. Save Our Cemeteries preserves and protects the historic cemeteries of New Orleans, and fosters a public appreciation for their historical, cultural, and architectural value. NACE is thrilled to be working with an organization that plays such a vital role in preserving a piece of our history for locals and tourists alike. An extraordinary four-course wine pairing dinner featuring premier New Orleans chefs, patron party, and silent auction are planned. Proceeds from this event will fund the preservation & education efforts of Save Our Cemeteries to ensure that these beautiful, historic symbols of New Orleans are enjoyed for generations to come.

Here is a fundraiser to get your goat. Goat in the Road Theatre Company invites everyone to their second annual fundraiser at the iconic New Orleans Pharmacy Museum (514 Chartres St.) from 7 – 10 pm. The party is inspired by their fall show, a brand new adaptation of one of Anton Chekhov’s most celebrated plays called “Uncle Vanya: Quarter Life Crisis.” TICKETS are $20 at the door or on Eventbrite. Proceeds support GRP’s 2015 -16 seasons. The schedule for the evening: 7 pm: Doors open and attendees are free to explore the Pharmacy Museum, peruse a raffle of local art, see Chekhov-inspired vignettes, be entertained by comedians C.J. Hunt and James Hamilton from The New Movement, and enjoy adult beverages at the bar; 9:00 pm: The New Orleans-based acrobatic duo “Acrodisiac” performs, raffle winners are announced, and there is an auction of larger items such as a case of wine, couples massage, and a fully funded bar crawl! GRP’s 2015 – 16 season features “Uncle Vanya: Quarter Life Crisis” in November 2015, and our young playwrights’ festival, Play/Write, in May 2016.

Enjoy some singing nuns at Café Lafitte’s in Exile (901 Bourbon Street) from 8 – 10 p.m. when you join New Orleans’ own Big Easy Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence as they host Sister-aoke: Singing with The Sisters. This is Novice Guard Chasin Azz’s novice project to benefit local charities in the community. Come have some laughs, enjoy some drinks, sing a song or three, and of course win some fabulous prizes!!

Get soaked to the gills literally with sights and sounds at the 6th annual Scales & Ales event with wine and beer from open bars and delicious cuisine from more than 40 local restaurants. This event takes place at the Aquarium of the Americas (100 Canal Place). Live entertainment and a unique aquatic atmosphere are highlights of the event as it flows throughout the Aquarium and onto the plaza overlooking the Mississippi River. Proceeds benefit Audubon Aquarium of the Americas’ valuable work in education and conservation, including the Louisiana Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Rescue Program and the Junior Naturalists and AquaKids youth programs. Enjoy life on the mighty Mississippi Rover at the Down River Festival. Founded in 2013, the Down River Festival is a free celebration of the music, culture and cuisine of New Orleans, so heavily influenced by the Mississippi River and its connection to the world. This year there will be music on the lawn of the Old U.S. Mint and a theme of rum and sugar for the lectures and food demonstrations. The free lectures and music will be featured at the Old U.S. Mint with food demonstrations at the French Market. Bon Appétit is an annual event that raises funds to help further the critical mission of Project Lazarus. To participate, all you have to do is host a party of any size, invite your friends and ask them to make a monetary donation to Project Lazarus when they arrive. You can host any kind of party with any number of cohosts – from a backyard barbecue to a five-course formal dinner. Then have your group attend The Bon Appétit Dessert and Champagne After Party from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Old Ursuline Convent (1114 Chartres Street). This event allows hosts and their guests to enjoy desserts, champagne and cocktails in an elegant and festive environment and toasts the evening’s success in support of the work of Project Lazarus. We also invite those who are unable to host or attend a dinner party to join us at the after-party for a nominal fee of $40.   Please consider hosting your own Bon Appétit party, find one that you would enjoy attending or come to the After Party. Saints Season is finally here and so are the parties. Come Fraques-Tailgate with the great guys there before the Saints v Cardinals game. There will be Door Prizes, Small Bites, Keg Beer & a Pop-Up Market featuring local brands REpurposingNOLA Piece by Peace Culture Shock, LLC Sénica, Coutelier NOLA and more. The event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. at Fraques located at 821 Baronne Street.

Tony Leggio is a born and raised New Orleanian. He has over 20 years of event management experience having produced over 5,000 events locally and nationally. Tony has received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements in the hospitality industry. Besides his professional career, Anthony has played an active role in the community.He has served Event Chair of Art Against AIDS for the No/Aids Task Force for the past ten years and was honored as Humanitarian of the Year in 2010 by the organization. He is also a freelance writer who has written for USA Today, as well as several local publications.He also writes a column regularly In Ambush Magazine, plus is part of Gambit’s Big Easy Theatre Committee.Tony is a social butterfly of New Orleans that not only knows how to put on a great event but also knows how to enjoy one.
