Every week I will spotlight fabulously fun and gay happenings that you may be interested in doing in and around NOLA. This week though it is all about Southern Decadence; here is just a tip of the deliciously decedent events happening this week during one of the city’s largest gay celebrations.

#1. Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Everyone let’s get wet at the Corner Pocket’s Wet Jockey Shorts Contest starting at 10 p.m. There will be dancers wetted (is that even a real word) down and dancing on the bar. Join in the antics and you can win $150 in cash and prizes. The Corner Pocket is located at 940 St. Louis Street.

The Gay Appreciation Award winning Show Bar of the Year, Oz (800 Bourbon Street) presents their fabulous annual Southern Decadence 2015 Drag Show. The show starts at 10:30 p.m. and is hosted by Persana Shoulders. This memorable show stars Lisa Beaumann, GAA Entertainer of the Year – Gia GiaVanni, Connie Hung, and GAA Transgender of the Year – Chi-Chi Rodriquez, and Anastacia Davenport. After stay and dance to the spinning the fabulous DJ Tim Pflueger.

There is always time for a drink when Kasha Davis is involved. Kickoff Southern Decadence at the Four Season Bar with Ru Paul’s Drag Race standout Mrs. Kasha Davis in a special one night only show with a star studded cast hosted by Persana Shoulders beginning at 9 p.m. Admission is $10 with a VIP Meet and Greet for $20 (Includes Photo and Admission). The Four Seasons is located at 3229 North Causeway Boulevard in Metairie.

Mid-City is celebrating Southern Decadence in style with their SD Kickoff. This is one of the best ways to start your weekend off right!  $1 well drinks all night and at midnight there will be a Wet Underwear Contest hosted by Frankie Fierce one of the Southern Decadence grand marshals. The winner of contest will win a bar tab and cold hard cash. The winner will be selected by audience applause so bring all your friends. Contest signup with the bartender. Break down your walls at The Phoenix. The Barcode Berlin Underwear Party officially kicks off Southern Decadence 2015. They have a large inventory of Barcode Berlin merchandise inside COK, their clothing and accessories store located inside the bar. Come by and pick out some new shorts, a new jock or some great socks for the evening. The event starts at 9 p.m. and is hosted by the Renegade Bears of Louisiana, who will run that night’s beer bust. From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., enjoy all-you-can-drink beer or soda. The legendary Rocco Steele will be taking the stage at 11 p.m. The Phoenix is located at 941 Elysian Fields Avenue.

Are you ready for some Bingo: Decadence Style! Let’s Make A Decadent Wheel Of Bingo is being hosted by the Mystic Krewe of Satyricon at the Allways Lounge (2240 St. Claude Avenue) starting at 10 p.m. There is a $10 donation benefiting the krewe. The hostess with the moistest, Todd Thunder, is back with a special Southern Decadence edition of everyone’s favorite game show, “Let’s Make A Wheel Of Bingo!” Join papa bear Todd for a smoking good time, including hilarious rounds of bingo, special performances, and your chance to win under $150,000 dollars in cash and prizes (just kidding) — maybe even a lap dance from Todd himself!

Back by popular demand, Halloween New Orleans is returning to Apres (608 Fulton Street) for their “CHAMPAGNE or LEATHER” Decadence Host Party from 6 – 8 p.m. There will be a $10 donation at the door for this event (no cost for Hosts and Patrons). This is an excellent way to stat the week’s festivities with some very hot men.

Be careful when entering the water at Bearracuda during Southern Decadence at One Eyed Jacks (615 Toulouse Street). Doors open at 10 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Ryan Jones from Los Angeles. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, and can be purchased at Bearracuda.com. Bearracuda welcomes hundreds of furry guys to dance the night away in the middle of the French Quarter. Bearracuda is the largest attended bear dance party and most prolific gay dance event in the U.S. They have events in 46 cities across the world, including parties in San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, NYC, London, Austin, Atlanta & Sydney.

 

 

 

#9. Friday, September 4 – Sunday, September 6, 2015

Get ready for three nights of decadent fun. Each night, The Phoenix closes down the block outside the bar so the party can pour out into the streets for their annual Block Party. Come enjoy a street packed with hot men! The Lords of Leather host the block party’s beer bust on Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and the Renegade Bears host it on Sunday. These are the times every night and each night is the same deal, enjoy all-you-can-drink beer or soda for what you’d pay for one drink at some other bars. Well fiddle dee dee this Decadence at the Magnolia Trail Bar Stroll through the Marigny and Lower Quarter. The Queen of the Magnolia Trail Stroll (Princesse Stephaney) will lead the participants to each of the designated bars. There will be a hoop dress contest that will be judged as Best and Worst, by the bar owners or managers. There is requested a $5 donation to the Big Easy Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence charity fund. The event begins at 3:30 p.m. at Mags 940 located at 940 Elysian Fields Avenue.

Get Happy with A House of Blues Foundation Room Decadent Happy Hour with Nicole Lynn Foxx and two of her posse – Madonnathan and Vinsantos. There is not cover with happy hour starting at 6:30 p.m. and a show at 7 p.m. The House of Blues Foundation Room is located at 225 Decatur Street.

Join one of the best shows of Southern Decadence, the 11th Annual Bourbon Street Extravaganza, a free outdoor concert on the corner of St. Ann and Bourbon Streets. The event begins at 6 p.m. and stars Kristine W. who currently had 15 #1 hits on the Billboard Dance Chart, and holds the World Record for the most consecutive #1 hits; Inaya Day appeared on Broadway as Dorothy in The Wiz; Rozalla toured with Michael Jackson as the opening act of the European leg of the Dangerous Tour; and Jeanie Tracy as “one of the Top-Ten voices in the world.”

Enjoy the greatest free event of Southern Decadence with the 41st Annual Official Southern Decadence Parade led by Southern Decadence Grand Marshals XLI Steven Mora, Rip Naquin, Marsha Delain, Misti Ates and Frankie Fierce celebrating Southern Decadence 44. The parade begins at the Official Home of Southern Decadence: Golden Lantern, 1239 Royal St. There is no fee or registration form to enter the parade. All walkers are welcome. Just join the parade following the grand marshals. The tentative Parade Route: starting 1239 Royal to St. Louis, right on St. Louis to N. Rampart, right on N. Rampart to Toulouse, right on Toulouse to Burgundy, left on Burgundy to St. Peter, left on St. Peter to N. Rampart, right on Rampart to 834 N. Rampart then back to St. Ann, down St. Ann to Bourbon, left on Bourbon to 901 Bourbon ending at Dumaine. It includes stops at Golden Lantern, Double Play, The Corner Pocket, Society Page, 700 Club, GrandPre’s, Rawhide, Good Friends, Bourbon Pub, Napoleon’s Itch, Oz, & Cafe Lafitte in Exile.  The parade starts at 2 p.m.

Tony Leggio is a born and raised New Orleanian. He has over 20 years of event management experience having produced over 5,000 events locally and nationally. Tony has received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements in the hospitality industry. Besides his professional career, Anthony has played an active role in the community.He has served Event Chair of Art Against AIDS for the No/Aids Task Force for the past ten years and was honored as Humanitarian of the Year in 2010 by the organization. He is also a freelance writer who has written for USA Today, as well as several local publications.He also writes a column regularly In Ambush Magazine, plus is part of Gambit’s Big Easy Theatre Committee.Tony is a social butterfly of New Orleans that not only knows how to put on a great event but also knows how to enjoy one.
