A True Blue Hit

155

I know there are only two days left but you need to make it a point to go out and see True Blue Bayou: A Tribute to Linda Ronstadt at the Allways Lounge. This entertaining and fascinating cabaret takes the audience through Ronstadt’s humble beginnings growing up in Tucson, Arizona through today though song.

Dorian Rush who serves as the writer, director and stars in the show is just simply amazing. Her vocal talents are superior as she volleys from the genres of rock, pop, country, folk, opera, and Cajun and Latin music as she signs all of Linda’s greatest hits. The show opens with “It’s So Easy To Fall In Love” and closes with her famous tune reminiscent of our great area “Blue Bayou.”

Backed by drums, bass and guitar, Rush doesn’t just sing the songs, she delivers them in such an eloquent fashion, that you cannot help to sing along during the fast ones or even feel emotional during the ballads. She also expertly weaves you through Ronstadt’s life, her influences, her collaborators (both professionally and personally) and her family history. The segment where the audience is shown the many men Linda is rumored to have had romantic entanglements is hysterical.

Rush lays out Linda’s life and music from little known facts about the singer’s family to her current battle with Parkinson’s Disease. The show clocks in at about two hours but flies by. Also $1 of each ticket purchases is donated to Parkinson’s Disease.

“Desperado,” “You’re No Good.” Long Long Time,” and “I Can’t let Go” are all belted out to your delight. Rush’s selfie duet with herself for “Somewhere Out There” while the movie American Tail plays in the background is fun as is her nod to Linda’s friendship with Aaron Neville with “I Don’t Know Much.”

True Blue Bayou is cabaret at its best; please do not miss this show.
